An unlabeled map shows the animal's range, and a cross-section drawing of its underground burrow illustrates how it builds a dwelling for protection, sleeping, and raising its young. A description of this mammal's habitat includes a mild warning about the importance of protecting creeks, rivers, and lakes. This book provides more information than Toni Eugene's Koalas & Kangaroos: Strange Animals of Australia (National Geographic, 1981; o.p.), which has only one paragraph and two photographs about the platypus.
