The addition of pictures to Michael King's best selling history of New Zealand is a good move, and many of the photos included here are excellent and complement the text very well. Which is a good thing, for while King is an excellent writer and historian, this book is very broad and quite a quick read. It isn't bad, it's just that many might prefer a more indepth analysis (I prefer Belich's two volumes myself).
