This book was a surprisingly easy, folksy kind of read. It helped me clarify the narrative of the Reformation in my head as I felt like I knew a number of disparate facts without being able to put them into a coherent order.
Not a book for someone wanting to over-analyse, but a great introduction or refresher.

Another excellent volume in the Penguin History of the Church series. Chadwick takes a schematic approach to the material, looking at the central movers for reform (Luther, Calvin, Zwingli), the Counter Reformation, and then life in newly reformed Europe. This approach works well, allowing the reader to get a good idea of the issues, and the response to them. A very good introduction to this turbulent period.
