I found it interesting as it was not actually a story being retold, but
her diary. It gives her thoughts and feelings like a commentary on things. This gave me some real insight into the attitudes of the day and her value system.
It is not as well written as her storybooks and You need to remember it is her diary so it is not being written and proofread like her story books.
It mirrors the monotony of travelling by wagon where everyday is basically the same with few changes

This book is basically just a copy of the journal Laura kept on the family's trip to Missouri. It includes about a paragraph per day noting the temperature (until the thermometer was lost), the view and the price of crops on their journey. Occasionally there is an interesting incident mentioned. It really is rather boring unless you are really interested in seeing exactly what Laura herself has written. Roger Lea MacBride includes most of the interesting incidents in his books on the Rose years and it is far more entertaining in his story format.
The second part of the book is written by Rose Wilder Lane and is her memories of the journey.
