This was the first Donna Hay book I received, and it was the one that sold me on her. This really is a book of cooking from the pantry; staples that you already have can be dressed with fabulous new ingredients to make many dishes. There are also some more unusual dishes, especially in the desserts section. They are still easy to accomplish but use less common ingredients. I have favourite recipes in this book, such as oven baked pastas and risotto, not only tasty but easy with a busy family. I make them in the morning, put in the fridge and cook at night; they come out perfectly every time. Chapters are divided by the main ingredient, such as rice, or occasions such as baking and sweets. Recipes encompas all meals of the day, there is a rice porridge that is my familys weekend treat. A wide variety of simple recipes, clear, clean photography and great practical use.

one of my favourite books! this is an excellent book for aspiring home cooks as it imparts with decades of product knowledge. it's rare to find a cooking book that isn't aimed at the typical bored housewife but this is one of them. the beautiful pictures combined with the wonderfully interactive and humourous tales of origin set this book far above the rest. with more television series in the works this is definitely a book you want to invest in.
