Reviews

"I have to recommend . . . Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon. The first chapter of her book is so right on target that I feel a little guilty for taking her ideas." Robert C. Atkins, MD

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 22/10/2007

Now I understand
* why on a low fat diet I became depressed
* Why on a low fat diet I never feel full
* Why on a low fat diet I can never keep off the wieght I loose.
This book is about why good fat is vital to our health and well being, how eating right can give you flashing eyes and dewy skin, about how eating right can stave off disease and illness and give you boundless energy. And this book tells you all about which are the good fats and which are the anti nutrients. Think about your body as something that needs the right balance of nutrients to function efficiently - like putting the wrong fuel in your car, your body will eventuallyfail - diabetes, obesity and rotten teeth. Im so gald I found this book, it has saved my life.

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 02/01/2006

This is an excellent book with HEAPS of important information! LOTS of recipies to choose from to make healthy eating interesting and YUMMY! Shows how to make cultured and fermented foods - you will be surprised and delighted! Truly a nutritional bible... And thick! This will take weeks to read :)
Information on: Politically correct nutrition, Fats, Carbs, Proteins, Milk products,Vitamins, Minerals, Enzymes, Salt spices and additives, Beverages, allergies and special diets, ....
Tells of an experiment where 18 rats were divided into three groups; thecontrol group received rat chow and water, the second group received cornflakes and water, and the third group received the empty cornflake box and water... Guess which group died first? Thats right! There is more nutrition in the box than there is in the contents!
Also heaps of quotes from Weston Price, Nutrition and Physical degeneration, and other relevant books.
Highly recommended to everyone!

"Nourishing Traditions... is a work of genius... richly encyclopedic.... run, don't walk to the nearest phone and order Nourishing Traditions."

More than just a cookbook, its an education!

4 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 20/02/2007

Good information that is beginning to come out slowly but surely and is smashing the myths and dogma that surround what constitutes a good diet. Thinking about the fact that the majority of the brain is made out of fat helps me to understand why diets that burn too much fat could be dangerous for people. Things like this are very important facts to know.

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 05/05/2008

This book is essential to any health conscious cook. It taught me to cook and got me really excited about the improvements I could make in my diet. Thank you Sally Fallon and Mary Enig. I actually wore my first copy out. Now on my second copy, there is such an array of do-able recipes that I'm still stumbling across new ones to try. The best thing is that my foodie/wine connoisseur husband really loves my cooking inspired by this book. Our stamina and health are enviable by all our friends. We both attribute this to putting into practice the principles Sally and Mary describe. From this book I have been introduced to 'The Weston A Price Foundation' www.westonaprice.org a fabulous resource for more info as well as an introduction to a whole community inspired by the message in Nourishing Traditions.

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 27/03/2009

I was very sick a year ago, and started researching. i found out how toxic soy milk is. I found nearly everything on the supermarket shelves contains toxic soy and corn by-products. I was starving every organ of my body-malnourished..

This book 'nourishing traditions' is too get you back to what is the 'right' way of eating... i have read many websites-by doctors- that tell people to get back to 'proper' eating.. the way we are told to eat now is totally wrong. it is not natural/healthy.
What was done for centuries, we are told in the last 60 years, is the wrong way to eat, and we have to change to what is now considered the right way...
Doctors/nutritionists only know what they are taught. They say- 'we have changed the way people eat, so why are people getting sicker. why is there more heart and organ (kidney/liver etc) disease. why is there more diabetes/obesity/food intolerance's etc..'

It is because what was NOT broken, was fixed.. Our bodies are malnourished and every organ in our body needs proper animal fat etc to function.. Hormones are governed by cholesterol. Why are so many couples infertile? Because they do not eat enough good meat/organic butter/cheese/etc. People cook in toxic oil..eat cardboard cereal..do not prepare grains as they should be, thus making them unable to be assimilated..

GET the book. LEARN how to look after your body. The only thing to get healthy in today's western worlds diet is the wallets of big food and pharmaceutical companies.... We have been so brain-washed..
regards ingrid

Good nutritional advice on the different food groups and recipes to follow. Good old naturopathic rant but made accessible to anyone who wonders about what they are eating_

This book was my wake up call to start NOURISHING my family, not just feeding them. The message is so important to you and your family's health. It will change the way you look at shopping and cooking for the better, its not hard to do either. Teaches in a very easy to read format about how animal fats are needed by humans.

Really easy to pick up the book and read little bits at a time when you are busy with children.

I bought this book from Fishpond at HALF the cost of the bookstore price.
