My friend and I travelled to Vietnam a couple of years ago and read Peta's book cover to cover - I even put post it notes to remind me of key attractions, restaurants etc. We used it more than our Lonely Planet! I have since given my (well read) book to numerous friends and family and largely through our great experience, and subsequently meeting Peta at one of her great cooking classes (Vietnamese of course!), I am now planning my 40th along with my best friend and about 20 others for this year. As an incentive, we are giving every one of our guests a copy to help get them even more excited! I have since bought a number of Peta's books and would highly recommend them - and her!

An interesting culinary tour of Vietnam as seen through the eyes of a quirkey English food writer and food presenter. She is looking for "true " Vietnamese cooking by visiting and sampling foods from bustling street markets and vendors and fishing ports. The mainstay of Vietnamese food, is seafood, lots of it and fish steamed and stirfried with herbs and spices ,especially star anise and their special fish sauce and vegetables ,served with a multitiude of noodles if not with the ubiquitous steamed rice. Some exotic foods like snakes are part of the tour, but not for the faint -hearted. There are some recipes, but NO pictures, 20 or so ingredients and fiddley cooking methods. Overall a vibrant down to earth trip, for myself, am not enthused to rush off and cook.
