Nancy Wake lived in France before WWII, and at the outbreak of war, she joined a resistance group in Marseilles and became the No 1 target on the Gestapo's most wanted list, with a five-million franc price on her head. Dubbed the White Mouse, she managed to escape and flee to England.

I bought this book from Fishpond as a replacement - I wanted a copy to keep as I loved the book. I read it on the plane to Canada and found myself laughing out loud, crying, and turning the pages with awe. This is a brilliant book written about an amazing women. Nancy Wake was born in NZ moved to OZ as a child and ended up in England she is an unrecognised war hero. Peter Fitzsimons captures her tale well with his down to earth easy to read style. This is a must read for anyone who is interested in people who change the world!!
Fantastic book/read - l recommend this book to all young (adult) lady's and women. The above reviews say it all...
Nancy will be 97 on the 30th August 2009 - "Happy Birthday Nancy"
Peter Fitzsimons writes with an intimate, conversational style about a woman who faced great peril with humour, ingenuity and dignity. His book is well researched and documents the life of an often overlooked Australian heroine. Well worth reading.
I absolutley loved this book - what a women!!! She came into a mans world and gave them a run for her money - all the while doing it in style! I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to everyone. Like another reviewer said she would definitley be someone you would like to meet and talk to about more things as she has certainly lived an interesting life!!
What a great book about a great woman, so brave and intelligent. There seemed to be nothing that woman wouldn't do - and in a mans world. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and learnt a lot as well.
Wow! I loved this book - Nancy Wake was beautiful intelligent, and very brave! This is an extraordinary account of her life, loves and danger. Written in an engaging style, you end up wishing you could spend some time with her in person to have a chat! Not your ordinary Grandma, that is for sure. Without women who risked their lives for the greater good, where would we be now? Fascinating life and a wonderful book.
