As a psychologist in private practice I have found this book to be extremely useful. The activites in the book are very well targeted and allow clients to maximise the impact of therapy. I often encourage clients that are engaging in therapy for depression or anxiety to purchase this book as a compliment to the therapy process.

I have only finished a couple of chapters in the book and filled out one Thoughts chart, but so far the process has been very effective. I consider it money well spent as it is something you can do for yourself at home for at least half the cost of therapy, although I would recommend therapy used in conjunction with the book. It does NOT change your life - it simply changes your thoughts so that your life is more rational and easier to deal with. I think the general idea is that if you can change your negative thoughts into positive ones, behavioural and lifestyle changes will be easier to carry out, therefore lifting you out of depression or anxiety. As a Christian I am sure God will use this book to help me, but it only focuses on cognitive help, rather than spiritual healing. "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind" Romans 12:2

This is a really fantastic workbook. It is simple and well laid out.
I was recommended this book by my therapist and the exercises have really helped me get ahead in a very short time.
It is a useful book to have as reference when I cannot see my teherapist and I will be using the tools in it for a long time to keep myself above water when my anxiety swings in.

I used this book to retrain the way I thought and become less at the mercy of my fluctuating feelings, and found it life-changing. I then trained as a counsellor and started using it with my clients. Of all the books on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy that I know, this one seems to be the most carefully put together, providing an accessible and step-by-step approach to investigating thinking and changing feelings. However, from my experience of introducing the methods to others I am aware that it isn't for everyone: using it effectively involves regular written exercises which can feel like a lot of hard work. For those who don't like the idea of written exercises, Byron Katie's method for investigating the truth of thoughts may work better.
