I was a bit disappointed with this book, I expected it to have a lot more information on how to physically recreate medieval clothing; but instead it seems to be a detailed description of how to be accurate in regards to the period in question. There is some useful information on recreating the clothing of the period; but no actual steps on how to do so.
The book is divided into sections describing the history and specifics of each member of society; some are more brief than others, but all are very well written.
I found the book interesting; but it wasn't what I was looking for and I found that the title and blurb are quite misleading.

I found this book to be a good but brief guide to what clothing may have been in england it focused more on the peasent and middle classes and had what looked like very basic costume ideas that when tried to follow got to be a bit of a tangle - if you dont know how to sew at all I would reccomend you find someone to help you translate/work out the paterns, but for someone who knows how to sew it would probably seem incredibly simple. All in all a good book for people starting out in reenactment

This book is great. It covers medieval clothing in occupations and social class. The line drawings are well done and sufficient that I could sew a gown from it and it gives ideas for the right fabric etc.. The section of 'Knights' clothing was limited in pictures but talked about the practicalities of armour and everyday wear of the Knight.

This book is interesting and good for a newbie medievalist. The costume patterns and diagrams that the average person could sew from and that look authentic. The recipes are nice and the ingredients easy to get in New Zealand. Covers medieval marriage and ceremonies and feasts. A section of medieval music is also provide.
