Love the recipes that are created by real people. I am not a great cook and normally get very confused, but this seems to have things I can actually cook.

If you liked Julie Goodwin's approach to cooking, you'll absolutely love her book, which would make a great gift for anyone who loves cooking and would be particularly useful for someone beginning their culinary journey. The recipes are clearly set out and a good many of them are accompanied by very enticing photographs. Julie has maintained her personal style throughout with comments at the beginning of each recipe, giving information about that recipe's place in her family's obvious enjoyment of food, by including a few family photographs and, on many pages, including quotations from family members and friends. For example, when you read Grandma's advice that "When mixing cakes, only stir in one direction or you'll unmix them!" and Nan's advice that "When pouring sherry, only pour half a glass. The top half", you get such strong sense of Julie's family's pleasure in coming together to eat and drink.
There are just so many great recipes in this book. Interestingly, even Julie's instructions are personalised and they are always clear, fully explanatory and many include great additional suggestions and tips.
Both inside covers contain a sepia copy of old handwritten recipes including Grandma's Never Fail Cake recipe. The back cover also contains a pocket for storing loose recipes from other sources and, as Julie had described during Master Chef, blank pages for writing one's own recipes.
Not only are the recipes great, but there is such attention to detail in the way the book has been produced and printed so that it's really an attractive book to handle and to look through. The paper is thick and made from "natural, renewable and recyclable products and made from wood grown in sustainable forests". This book is very much a return to great family cooking with a sharing of the old with an environmental respect for the future of the planet. Congratulations Julie and Random House!

What a refreshing and family-oriented cookbook! Beautiful colour pictures and easy to follow recipes that echo the love and dedication Julie showed towards her cooking whilst competing on Masterchef. There is something in here for everyone!

This is a great book for beginners and well seasoned cooks. The recipes are good home cooking, mostly with some for more advanced cooks but not unobtainable for new to cooking.

I consider myself a good cook and im sorry but i totally disagree with the above comment. I think Julies book is good homely meals, I agree that the novice cook would be able to manage the recipes but if you are a good cook you can add your own flair.
Love the book

Just what I needed - another cookbook!!!! but I am ever so glad that I did buy it. It is a lovely, easy going book with great photo's, lovely little family type stories and some beautiful recipes. I would recommend this book to anyone...even those people like me that already own copious amounts of cookbooks.

I really enjoyed this book. For a family with foods allergies it was great. Some new ideas that the kids loved and a rehash of old favourites. Nothing too 'out there', just really good home cooking.
The book is beautifully presented and it always a joy to flick through the pages and look at the devine images.
