While most books of this type discuss the process of making an instrument, this book addresses the questions, "How and why?" It is an excellent second or third book to add to your collection on making any kind of stringed instrument, especially guitars. There is detailed advice that helps the reader understand how to develop design, as well as construction, presented in a clear succinct manner.

For the woodworker who has the ability to turn pieces of timber into a great looking instrument, this book provides answers as to why things should be done a certain way, what to listen for when tap tuning a piece of wood, and most importantly, how to make an instrument that not only looks good, but sounds as it should.
