This is the most up-to-date and thorough paediatric language text I'm currently aware of, and is the 'clinician's bible' at my university. While the emphasis on theoretical background might put some readers off, it's essential information for students and experienced clinicians. Rhea Paul points out that her book can be 'preachy' - it contains a lot of her personal opinions - but I've found it to be very balanced and really no different from any other text! A lot of key information from 'classic' language texts, for example, Owens' 'Language Development' and Fey's 'Language Intervention with Young Children', are included in this comprehensive resource. Highlights include the language milestones printed on the inside covers for easy access, lists of assessments and treatment programmes for just about every disorder imaginable, a chapter on more advanced language problems, AAC considerations, and a section on special populations such as children with ASD. The only downside is that students just beginning clinical placements won't find much information on HOW to deliver particular interventions in this book. Highly recommended nevertheless!
