Set in an alternate Camelot,Knight of Darkness is a sweet entertaining read.
Varian du Fey is a cursed man, born a bastard son of Lancelot and an evil Adoni(Nariska, I think her name is)
When a Knight of the round table is tourtured and killed by the MODS (minions of death) Varian is sent to retrieve his body from the now cursed realm of Camelot. In Glastonbury,(a place in between the worlds) he encounters a extremely ugly chick called Merewyn. In the same place he also comes face to face with his mommy dearest who places a braclet on him that drains his power.
Because he has no powers Varian is captured and tortured by his mom.As this method does not work Nariska offers Merewyn her beauty back in enchange for seducing Varian to join the dark side.
At first Merewyn complies but changes her mind and offers Varian his freedom if he would take her with him....
This is a really good book despite the hag and the dead body. Varian is a really strong yet kind hero whose sole purpose in life is to protect those who are weaker than him.
Merewyn is also a strong (if a little amoral )heroine. At first her sole purpose in life was survival and gaining her freedom. She was prepared to sacrifice Varian to gain what she wanted but changed her views as she got to know him better.
I also highly recommend this book to fans of Kinley MacGregor .If you havn't read her before give it a try

This is one of Kinley MacGregor's latest novels, and I found it really good. There are a few dark themes (as usual in most of her books), so be prepared for merciless killing etc, but the characters are very well-written and the plot is extremely easy to be drawn into. This is one of those books you have to read in one go cos you don't want to put it down! Can't wait for the rest of the series to come out.
