Alicia explains how meat, fish, milk, and cheese - the very foods we've been taught to regard as the cornerstones of good nutrition - are actually the culprits behind escalating rates of disease and the cause of dire, potentially permanent damage to our ecology. Yet going meat- and dairy-free doesn't mean suffering deprivation; to the contrary, "The Kind Diet" introduces irresistibly delicious food that satisfies on every level - it even includes amazing desserts to keep the most stubborn sweet tooth happy. She also addresses the nutritional concerns faced by many who are new to plant-based diets and shows how to cover every nutritional base, from protein to calcium and beyond. Alicia knows that changing lifelong dietary habits is a process and that each person progresses at a different pace. For that reason, "The Kind Diet" encompasses 3 separate levels, from Flirting to Superhero. Flirts learn to dip a toe into the vegan pool, reducing their meat-eating and swapping out a few key foods for plant-based substitutes to see quickly how even small changes can reap big results. Vegans get to experience the life-altering effects of forgoing animal products entirely while still enjoying many convenience foods and meat substitutes in addition to the wonderful grains, vegetables, and fruits that form the core of that diet. True enlightenment comes with the Superhero program, based on the principles of macrobiotics and built on a foundation of whole grains, vegetables, and other Magic Foods that Alicia describes in detail.

I found this book to be set out well with all levels of interest in vegetarian, vegan and macrobiotic diet, unlike a lot of books on these subjects it is not forceful, it is a relaxed view to experiment and explore these new dietry habits and the book offers perspectives on the farming problems that exist, pollution issues, and health issues relating to the use of meat and dairy.
This book offers insight into a healthier, happier lifestyle that allows you to go at whatever pace suits you.
An interesting read!
This arrived on my doorstep 2day ... and I am already impressed. I am not vegan, or vegetarian for that matter. But this book is loaded with recipes and info that I will use.
Yes it does have ingredients that you won't have in your cupboard. Venture down the organics section of your supermarket or into your local natural foods shop and you will find the stuff.
Alicia writes well AND LOVES HER FOOD.There is a lot of nutrient info for those who are starting on the road to being Vegan to absorb. If you like food and realise you don't need 2 eat meat EVER DAY, rather vegetables only can be served as a meal, you will enjoy this book AND U WILL USE IT
Arrived super fast - super impressed.
It's a nice easy read for anyone interested in giving Vegan/Vegetarian living a go. It's not pushy at all but gives plenty of reasons why you should try eliminating meat... even once a week.
