'Journey to the River Sea' tells the story of Maia, an orphan girl, who, accompanied by a governess, Miss Minton, is sent to South America to live with relatives. Maia is hungry to belong, to be a part of a family, and is looking forward with eagerness to meeting her Uncle and Aunt and twin cousins. But her hopes are very different from the reality that awaits her.
This book is hauntingly beautiful and stays with you long after you have finished reading it. Eva Ibbotson has a great gift of expression and is a joy to read.
