Japan's ornamental tradition is famous for its subdued and highly stylised motifs. Many of these take their inspiration from the natural world, with typical favourites such as the crane and the carp, as well as an enormous variety of flowers and foliage. All the illustrations are stored in high-resolution format on the enclosed free CD-ROM and are ready to use for professional quality printed media and web page design. The pictures can also be used to produce postcards, or to decorate your letters, flyers, etc. They can be imported directly from the CD into most design, image- manipulation, illustration, word-processing and e-mail programs; no installation is required. For most applications, single images can be used free of charge. Please consult the introduction to this book, or visit our website for conditions.

I had bought a couple of other books in the Pepin Press series and was very impressed, but was disappointed by this edition. The images are all in black and white, which I did not expect after seeing other books in the range were printed in full colour, and when considering the amazing depth and range of material available the scope of designs featured was very limited, with a great many repeat patterns which I personally would not immediately associate with Japanese art. Admittedly I buy this series mainly as eye candy rather than a resource (I've never used the enclosed cds) but nevertheless I don't think this particular book is up to the usual standard of this series.
