This book covers the Inquisition in Europe and touches briefly on other regions throughout the world that were dominated by the Catholic church during the medieval times of torture.
It's an informative historical account of what happened when a major religious institution loses sight of their spirituality and seeks to hold power by dominating and creating fear in its subjects.
The authors show how the Catholic church withheld discoveries, both scientific and philophical because they posed a threat to the institution.
Some parts of the book are a bit dry in reading, but it's a good place to start if you're interested in medieval history and in particular periods such as the Inquisition.
