This is one of those 'stranger than fiction' true stories. The story of Steven stayner, who walked into a police station seven years after being abducted by Dennis Parnell. The story of how he abducted Steven and managed to keep a hold on him for such a long time, despite the horrendous things that he did to him, is a very sobering and ultimately frightening read.
Unfortunately for Steven even being returned to his family didn't signal the end of his troubles and the book does not ultimately have a happy ending.
The inclusion of the story of Steven's older brother, Cary, who became the Yosemite killer, makes the whole story even more twisted and bizarre.
How one family can have so much tragedy befall them is almost incomprehensible.

I bought this book because I had seen the movie when I was younger and wanted to get a better idea of what Steven Stayner had to endure at the hands of a complete waste of space - Kenneth Parnell. The internet and movie version’s don’t always provide the details that a book provides, so I recommend to anyone who wants the details of this case to get a hold of this book and read it. This is one of those stories that stay’s etched in your memory long after you've read it.

The book was not very well written however, the story was very sad but it does raise awarness of how easily children can be seduced by all types of people and how we need to be vigiliant with their protection
