About the Author
Albert Uderzo was born in 1927 in a small village in Marne, France. He met Rene Goscinny in 1951 and on 29 October 1959 Asterix made his first appearance on page 20 of Pilote. Asterix the Gaul, their first album, was published in 1961 and there have now been 33 Asterix albums. Rene Goscinny was born in Paris in 1926, and spent most of his childhood in Argentina, before eventually moving to Paris in 1951. He died in 1977.

This book is unlike the rest of the Asterix series in being written as a story (with illustrated pages) rather than in strip cartoon form. This turned out to be an advantage for my purpose, because my 7-year old grandson was able to read it straight through for himself - the cartoon versions are too complex at this stage and an adult reader and explainer is needed.
Youv gotta love asterix. Its about a guy caled asterix who is a bit small but helps his people (thee gauls) resist the roman occupation of his land with the help of a funny little wizard and his fat friend obelix. There are heaps of asterix books out there and if you love comics, youl love asterix!
