I'm not one to stop reading a book half way through. Once I start a book I commit to reading the entire book and enjoying it, but sadly this book is one of the few I have put down never to finish. Having read, enjoyed and recommended nearly all of Jodi Picoult's books, I have been disappointed in her last two efforts. I enjoyed the way the book was written. I like that we get every characters point of view. It's the storyline that lets us down. It's predictable and boring. Not worth the effort I'm afraid.

another great book by Jodi Picoult. I always enjoy seeing what topic she has researched and she has done well with the topic of autism. I recommend this book for its characters, story and as usual the final page. This one in particular I want to discuss with friends as I feel she leaves you wondering. So if you are a Picoult follower, enjoy this latest book

I have read most of Jodie Picoult's books and yet another great read!It was a good insight into the life of a family with Asperger's when I knew nothing about it. It made me realise how people judge people when out in public for the things they do, when they don't know the half of what goes on behind closed doors and the amount of effort it takes to raise a child with Asperger's. This book definitely opened my eyes and it was hard to put down!

As a mother of an 18 year old with Aspergers syndrome, I was keen to read this book, as I have read Jodi Picoult before and found her okay.
However, as a previous reviewer said, when I start a book I always like to finish no matter what, but this book just made me so annoyed I only ended up skimming through the end as I really did not want to waste anymore time reading it.
I often find it difficult to connect or like any of the characters in Picoults books and this book is no exeption. As usual the mother is over the top and overbearing and her reactions to situations totally unbelievable. The character Jacob is likeable, but unfortunately does not catch the essence of an 18 year old with Aspergers at all. I found him to be more autistic, than Aspergers. The mother has him on an extremely restictive diet, but it does not seem to be working. He still has meltdowns in public places, has to have certain colored foods on certain days and really does not show the intelligence that he should be at 18.
It seems to me she has done research, but not to the full extent, and this boy seems to represent to me an unnecessarily eggagerated example of Aspergers and family response. I would not even offer it to my son to read, for he would probably be highly offended by the stupidity of the characters, the plot, and mainly the portrayal of someone with Aspergers.

I really enjoy Jodi Picoult's books and this was no exception. It was evident that she did alot of research into this book, for the facts and things that Jacob quotes and other things as well. The ending was a bit disappointing for me but the different perspectives of all the characters flowed well.I would definately recommend reading this book.

Thanks for the reviews, I have been wondering whether to read this one or not, as my son has Asperger's. In response to the review on 27/04, it is actually quite common for 'aspies' to be very aware of their social awkwardness. My son is fully aware of his differences, which sometimes makes it all the more difficult. I think its important to not just try and get them to fit into our world, but for us to fit into their world. I will be interested to read this book.

This is the 6th novel I have read by Jodi Picoult.
I liked this book, but it wasn't my favourite of her's. But if you're a Picoult fan, by no means buy the book and read it! I look forward to her next book, releasing early in 2011.

Yet another fantastic book from Jodi Picoult. Once again she captures the story from the many different perspectives- from the mother, the lawyer, the policeman, the brother and of Jacob himself. My only complaint- if you like- is in her perception of the main character Jacob who has Asperger's Syndrome. I find it hard to believe he would have such an understanding of his social 'awkwardness', and he did feel a little 'Rain man' like- in that rather than only having a mixture of some of the Asperger's traits (as most people with Asperger's Syndrome do) he seemed to have every trait known, and seemed vary aware of each of his traits. But if you are able to over look that, the story itself was very good, and I would recommend it to any one who likes Jodi's style of writing.

I'll tell you my life story by letting you know the ending: Jodi Picoult made me understand my mother (and everyone else in the world who seemed to hate the teenager me) more. Who else can take a controversy and show both sides of the coin in equality for an unbiased judgement?
Every story stayed with me. This one Rules it all (pun intended, haha)
