Incredible. The greatest non-fiction book I have ever read about the Police. David Simon is a master of combining hard facts with the human heart and as aresult you're made all the more aware of the magic and horror that lurks out there. If you want a book that's going to give everything you could possibly want and more, this is it. Read it one summer and I remember just wanting the book to never end. An amazing stunning book that will give you such an insight into what it is like to investigate murders for a living. A must read of the highest order.

This book is great. One journalist has written about his experiences after following a police unit for one year. Its gives an insight into one of the most violent and deadliest cities in the world, through the eyes of the Baltimore city's Homicide Department. Its not for the faint hearted as there are some colourful descriptions of crime scenes. It shows how one develops a dark sense of humour when confronted with what police have to deal with day in and day out. If you appreciate a bit of dark humour or are a fan of 'The Wire' or 'Homicide: Life on the Streets' (both set in Baltimore) you will enjoy this.
