About the AuthorNeil Larry Shumsky, PhD, teaches history at Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA. He has been a member of the history department at Virginia Tech since 1972. He earned his doctoral degree at the University of California, Berkeley, CA, where he emphasized American social history in general and the history of American cities and the history of immigration to the United States in particular.
