15-20 per cent of children are highly sensitive - and they are often labelled shy, introverted, fussy or faddy. The real story is very different though and this practical book helps parents know what to do, when to back off, and how to ensure their child is given the right sort of treatment at school. It provides parents with insights and information so they can understand high sensitivity, and help their highly sensitive child thrive in the world. It is important for these children to be understood so they can be helped to avoid the common traps of shyness and withdrawal that many highly sensitive children fall into as they develop. It contains a questionnaire for parents to find out if their child has the traits common in highly sensitive children. It also discusses HSC's at different ages - infant, toddler, school-age and adolescent.

If you have a sensitive child/toddler then THIS is your bible.
It has really helped us understand our child, and see the world from how they feel.
Recommend to anyone. Essential reading!
So far so good. Some parts of the book seem repetitive but I have been able to utilise some of the suggestions with our children. I find myself nodding in agreement with a lot of the content. An interesting situation occured 2 days ago when my son had to have a blood test (age 4). I did not explain the whole procedure prior to him having it done as I knew he would be upset and just rode the situation out. There was upset and fear which I dealt with by hiding his eyes, rathing than using words to sooth and explain why he had to have a needle poked into his arm! It worked! He was incredibly brave (5 viles and no spray!). I have now started simplifying my explanations of things and keeping them short and concise, especially in scenarios where he would ordinarily break into floods of tears. Funnily enough, I am now dealing with him in the same manner as I would like - recognising that I appear to also have HSP tendancies. I would recommend the book as a useful tool, much the same as any child rearing book. Use the bits that work for you, discard what doesn't!
This book was recommended to me, and I am pleased I went ahead and purchased it.
The information provided is insightful, and very helpful in understanding the nature of a sensitive child. It is very constructive in ways of helping these wonderful but often misunderstood children.
