Been through a bad patch lately and was recommended this book to read. What a breath of fresh air and just what I needed. Have been doing all the exercises and it makes the experience all more worthwhile. I would recomend this book to anyone who wants to move forward in their live. You dont need to struggle any more.

I'm usually very wary of the self-help gendre and this book appears to have some of the failings of the gendre in its brief format and apparently simplistic strategies but that is to underestimate it. It makes the concepts behind ACT or Acceptance and Committment Therapy very accessable without the jargon. It presents a power cognitive therapy in an easy how-to-do it format. For a reader who wishes to investigate ACT specifically or mindfulness generally this book is a good starting point.

The information in this book is easy to read, understand, and put into practice. The exercises listed throughout the book are relevant for people experiencing difficulties with making goals to those experiencing low mood to those experiencing anxiety symptoms. The notion of stop the struggle and begin to accept and take committed action is presented in a way that is practical, simple, and refreshing. The idea is to accept yourself as you are and be in the moment rather than spend life trying to change yourself.

If you've heard about ACT and would like to know more about it, or have never heard of it, but want to check out what all the fuss is about, this is the place to start. I highly recommend the book to not only those of us who have fallen into the "happiness trap," but also to our friends, loved ones, and mental health professionals who have tried to liberate us from it.
