Reviews
Alan Carr's Handbook does an admirable job in providing immensely practical approaches for the assessment and treatment of mental health problems in young people, whilst also being critically and constructively informative on the findings of research and the claims of theories. The succinct listing of further readings for both professionals and families, together with details of useful web sites, at the end of each chapter is a particular strength. Michael Rutter, Institute of Psychiatry, London This text stands as the clearest and most comprehensive account of therapy and practice in the field of child and adolescent mental health. This second edition will have an impact that establishes it as the text of choice for students, practitioners and trainers. Arlene Vetere, University of Surrey

The Handbook of Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology is a must have if studying child psychology at postgraduate level. It is probably one of the few text books that I will still use in clinical practice once finishing University training.
The first few chapters gives a solid background on how to do psychological letters and reports, and gives good overall summary of child development. Sections are divided into development stages with the more common problems separated into chapters such as sleep problems, toileting problems in the infancy and early childhood section; and drug abuse, mood problems in the adolscent section. These chapters cover childhood issues and disorders in a succinct and methodical format including classification, diagnosic criteria, aetiological theories, assessment, treatment, and further reading. Information is easy to find in this book as well as having a very readable style.
Money is well spent on this book!
This book is perfect for using in my new employment a a psychologist working in child protection - I'd recommend it to anyone working in this industry. All the relevant theories are included and each problem area is covered in great detail. I'm also pleased with the layout and the 'easy-to-read' language.
This is a must have if practicing in clinical psychology. Carr very effectively reminds the reader about the theory as well as comprehensively covering the aspects of practice in this area.
