This is the most beautiful, inspiring, feet-on-the-ground, practical, simple, and amazingly comprehensive book. I'd never normally go off and build a house armed only with a book, but I'm going to do just that! I trust these guys. They tell you about stuff that can go wrong, as well as all the pluses to cob building, and that's enormously important. Immensely readable and funny, even the nitty-gritty stuff about the length of straw to use for window sills, etc. I read it right through. Great illustrations. Altogether really empowering. I'm going to cover it with plastic, because it's going out with me onto the building site. I can't recommend this book highly enough!

Have you heard about cob building? Less known than mud brick or rammed earth, cob is a highly accessible method of building beautiful, individual, environmentally friendly homes. This book on cob building is also an inspiring primer on how to leave the rat race behind through creating an affordable alternative home.
