These books are a brillliant addition to the Halo franchise and shed some light on the events that transpired around the Spartan program before the discovery of the Covenant, the events leading up to the destruction of the first halo, and then how the Master Chief made his way back to earth after it's destruction. All three are written by well-known science fiction authors, but the second book is debatably weaker than the others, whether this is because the reader already knows what will happen or because it was written by William C. Dietz instead of Eric Nylund is debateable however.

A must read for any Halo fan! Read about the history of Master Chief & the spartan program in these three exciting novels based before, during & after the Halo 1 game.
Halo Book One - The Fall of Reach: is set before the game & has the history of the Spartan program, this was my favourite book.
Halo Book Two - The Flood: is the Halo game, wriiten by a different authour. I found this one a little boring because if you've played the game you know whats going to happen. However their was an awesome side story following one of the Covenant Grunts that was very funny & entertaining. This book gives better insight into the covenant than the first book.
Halo Book Three - First Strike. This book is a bridge between the the Halo 1 & 2 games. Written by the author of the first book.
overall a great read for a fan of Halo.

If you've played the games Halo I & II, you're gooing to enjoy these novels based in the same universe. This is a three part series, available now in a nice little case of its own. The books themselves are entertaining, though a little military focused, but you can hardly blame that aspect as the game is based squarely in that fashion.

This box set is written by 3 different authors, each box has a different feel.
"The Fall of Reach" Is well written book, it gives the details of the "Spartan 2" project, AI production and the great war before "halo 1"(PC game). This book contains all new stories and a wealth of information. 4.5 stars
"The Flood" I found this book was poorly written, it every boarder lined on pedantic. The reproduction of the dialog for the game is word of word. The introduction of other characters was this books only saving grace, saying that the book swapped back and forth between characters out warning. The description of the battle scenes lead me to believe the author only played the game on easy. 2.5 stars
"First Strike" is given a freedom to become a real book again, revealing to truth about the missing "Spartan 2" solders and the counter attack of the human forces. Character story swap are marked and are easy to follow, all in all good read well worth the time. 4.5 stars
