"A survey of the reading habits of managers found that though they buy books by the likes of Tom Peters for display purposes, the one management book they have actually read from cover to cover is The Goal." —The Economist
" Goal readers are now doing the best work of their lives." —Success Magazine
"A factory may be an unlikely setting for a novel, but the book has been wildly effective." —Tom Peters

I had a hard time translating the ideas from teh book into a service environment because the story is centered around a manufacturing plant, but by the time I finished the book it was all clear.
I recommend this book to all businesses who want to either increase output, decrease lead-times or decrease inventory and WIP...and so much more. Actually you will find that implemeting the ideas from the book leads to many different, great results by default.
I never thought I could attempt to read this book when I first encountered it years ago given its unique novel format. Howver, once you're past the first few chapters and the scene is set, it's a book that could change the way you live forever. Goldratt's perspective of identifying constraints in everyday life and the working environment helpds to bring the subject closer to our own personal lives. He has even take the simpliest of activities, such a Scouting group expedition, and demonstrated how constraints manifest themselves in statistical control environments. His other examples are brilliant.
No matter how experienced you think you are in Supply Chain management or Business Process Improvement, this book is essential if you haven't already read it. A great complimentary philosophy to Lean and Class A S&OP processes.
I found this book so interesting I could not put it down. It relates extremely easily to your own environment and the conceptual thinking is as with so many great ideas brilliance in simplicity. You can apply the examples and thinking to your own enveronment independent of what your working environment is and achieve almost immediate results. I bought all the other books inthese series as well and part of my career was really supported by the ideas out of this book.
This is not a typical Ops/Man book - don't buy it if you're looking for a reference manual. An easy to read book in story format for those interested in Operations or Manufacturing Processes, however you don't realise you're learning until you find yourself thinking about applying the thinking and issues Alex faces to your own environment.
This is not a novel, although it is an entertaining tale that is hard to put down. You hardly realise that you are actually learning as you read. Step by step you learn about the Theory of Constraints and how to improve your business production processes and working environment. Goldratt and Cox get their message across in a most effective way. I recommend this book to all who want to learn, painlessly, how to improve productivity and profitability.
a fairly interesting book, pretty good for a self-help sort of book. quite different from my usual taste in books, yet i found that i rather enjoyed it - more than i expected actually. i recommend it to people with alternative taste, i think that you will be suprised at how much you enjoy this book, it has the potential to shock and interest you.
