Kim Phuc was nine years old in 1972. Severely burned by napalm, she ran from her burning village and was captured on film. Denise Chong relates Kim's experience and recovery in this astonishing biography and history of America's shameful war. The photograph of Kim, seen around the world, was one of many to turn public opinion against the war in Vietnam. This is the story of how the picture came to be and also what happened to Kim after it was taken. It provides an insight into the country Vietnam became after the US army left, and explains why Kim finally had to flee to Canada, where she now lives.

After reading reviews and hearing the story in the papers i picked up the book to have a read. I must admit i was expecting more from the writer as to accounts to what happened. When i started to read it was difficult to get into the book. Once you get into it, it is definantly what people say a great eye opener to what happened in the vietnam war. Great details to how familyies struggled and survived the carnage. Also how 'the girl in the picture' carries the scare till today of what happened then.
'The Girl in the Picture' is an amazing story of survival. She did not just survive the bombing she also survived being in the media spotlight for many years. It gives a true insight into how hard life was for her, her family and many other Vietnamese. A good read.
this book waws a real eye opener on how life is during war and poverty. it was amazing to read how she over come all htese problems but still suffered with the emotional and physical effects the war has on people.
i recommend this book highly as it was well written.
This book tells the amazing story behind the picture that became so famous during the Vietnam War. 'The Girl in the Picture' is half history of the war, half family story and can be tedious to read as there is so much detail. However Kim's story is so remarkable that this can be forgiven. A hard but rewarding read for anyone who has seen the photograph.
