The Gendered Cyborg brings together key writings exploring the relationship between representation, technoscience and gender, through the metaphor of the cyborg. While the contributors argue that the cyborg provides new ways to think about the relationship between culture and technology and between women and machines, they also question whether the cyborg represents a challenge to, or simply another representation of, gendered categories in science. The articles are grouped into thematic sections, exploring: * the ways in which Western science has produced and represented gender, and discusses the importance of Donna Haraways groundbreaking Manifesto for Cyborgs * the science-gender relationship in contemporary science fiction films such as Blade Runner and the Alien series * debates around modern reproductive technology such as ultrasound scans and IVF, and their benefits and constraints for women * issues relating to artificial intelligence and the internet.
