I have read this book twenty years ago. It is still one of my favourites. All the Russian composers, performers and politicians get a new "live" dimension in this book. Galina manages to connect the reader with Mstislav Rostropovich (her husband) and Prokofyev and Shostakovich ( their family friends). They all become real people, with real everyday problems, including some funny episodes as well. I would highly reccomend this book to everyone.
