A beautifully produced collector's edition featuring all of Murray Ball's 'Weekender' cartoons. These were cartoons that were run in the weekend newspapers. Many have never before been published in book form, and many never seen in New Zealand. (They were run in Saturday and Sunday newspapers in Australia, but only on Saturdays here.) A unique feature of the Weekenders is the Footrot Flats 'photographs', where Murray has drawn our favourite characters onto colour photographic backgrounds. These colour photographs appear throughout. A beautiful work of rare Footrot Flats material that every collector or Footrot Flats fan must have.
About the Author
Murray Ball was born in the Manawatu. He spent the early part of his life in New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. After being employed as a staff cartoonist on newspapers in New Zealand he worked as a freelance cartoonist in the United Kingdom. He returned to New Zealand in 1974 and created his best-known cartoon strip, Footrot Flats. He and his wife Pam, live on a farm on the outskirts of Gisborne in Poverty Bay.

Reading this brought back many fond childhood memories. It was great to have all of these strips in one book to keep and to share with my nephews and nieces. Growing up on a farm I could relate to many of the tales portrayed in these strips and even now that I live in the city they still bring a smile to my face.
This is a really nice collection of Footrot Flats cartoons by Murray Ball. A really big heavy book it is completely worth the money. I bought a couple of copies to give to some overseas visitors - a great reminder of New Zealand for them and not something they would just put on a shelf and never enjoy (like most tourist sovernir books). It will take you ages and ages to get through this. Look out for the other edition that was put out too. They are both great and include a lot of never seen before material.
