Jack West Jr and his loyal team are in desperate disarray - they've been separated, their mission is in tatters, and Jack was last seen plummeting down a fathomless abyss. After surviving his deadly fall, Jack must now race against his many enemies to locate and set in place the remaining pieces of The Machine before the coming Armageddon. As the world teeters on the brink of destruction, he will learn of the Five Warriors, the individuals who throughout history have been most intimately connected to his quest. Scores will be settled, fathers will fight sons, brothers will battle brothers, and Jack and his friends will soon find out exactly what the end of the world looks like...

After leaving readers literally hanging at the end of his previous adventure with Jack West Jr. (The 6 Sacred Stones), Reilly jumps in immediately, with the action ramped up even higher. The world will end in three months unless he and his elite team can decipher the clues and uncover the whereabouts of the remains of the great warriors throughout history. Hidden with their bodies are the pieces of a machine needed to save humanity. Of course, there are others who will work hard to stop them from achieving their goal, and West's father leads that team. As time runs out, West realizes success means that he must rely on help from his enemies. The book opens with a three-page summary to help explain what's going on for newcomers and recap for everyone else. VERDICT Nasty traps, nonstop action, and elaborate illustrations make this a compelling page-turner. Think of it as watching an Indiana Jones film on a moving roller coaster. For fans of action, this is essential reading. [See Prepub Alert, LJ 9/15/09.]-Jeff Ayers, Seattle P.L. Copyright 2009 Reed Business Information.
In the thrilling third installment in bestseller Reilly's series to feature Jack West Jr. (after Seven Ancient Wonders and The Six Sacred Stones), the adventurer from the Australian outback and his band of merry men, women and children race against several nefarious groups to defuse a disastrous celestial event. The planetary entity known as the "Dark Star," the evil twin to our sun, is set to return to our solar system, igniting a massive negative energy source that will destroy all life on earth. It's a tough challenge, but if anyone can save the world, it's Jack. There are riddles to solve, bad guys to kill and derring-do to be done, all of which flashes by as one action scene piles onto the next. Readers should leave their thinking caps behind, hang onto the panic bar and be prepared to be flung hither and yon. Plenty of maps and diagrams add to the fun. (Jan.) the five greatest warriors, was a can't put down read,a fast paced exciting adventure with jack west jr. and his comrades. Matthew Reilly is a A1 ADVENTURE STORYTELLER, can't wait for jack west's next adventure.
This is the third book in Matthew Reilly's Jack West series, picking up from where the previous novel, 'The Six Sacred Stones' ended on a cliffhanger (but there is a recap at the start of the book).
This book is typical Reilly - perhaps even more so, since most of the set-up for the story was done in the previous book, making this one a big action-packed rollercoaster from start to finish. All of Reilly's trademarks are present - breathtaking action sequences, certain-death situations with amazing (if a little implausible) escapes. The bad guys are suitably evil, one setting a whole new standard for it, and the good guys are suitably good, with their differences highlighted in the last words of one character. Reilly keeps the tension growing towards the end of the book, and with his propensity for killing off characters you can't be sure if the heroes will come through unscathed.
I could not put this book down, and regularly sat bolt upright in an 'Oh my God' moment. Even after finishing it, I still want more! I really hope he decides to write more Jack West books.
A word of warning, though, this book is pure action-thriller, so if you like your fiction deep and character-driven, stay away. Alternatively, if you're looking for a thrill, you're in the right place, and I hope you enjoy it (although it may be wise to read Seven Ancient Wonders and/or the Six Sacred Stones first to get the full backdrop to the story).
Loved it!
Action packed.
Jack West Jr is my hero!
I would like to see more with Lily involved, especially to see her develop after what she went through towards the end of the book (dont want to give some of the story away)!
And its always good to have some happy ending as well.
I'll definitely be looking out for the next book, regardless of the characters written!
This was great! The ordering process was so easy and I recieved my order in like a couple days. Book is awesome so far! Matthew Reilly is in his element again, however would be nice if he brought back Scarecrow
wow after waiting... seems like forever we finally got to have a good read! matthew reilly is such a thrill seeking writer, can't wait for any other stories of his with the character Scarecrow in it... they are full on!
This is the last book in the series about Jack West Jnr and his seemingly unstoppable group of loyal followers.
I love all of Matthew Reilly's books, have been a fan since I first read "Contest" and could not put it down! Didn't go to bed that night until about 3am!.
If you love adventure, and non stop action, then these are the books for you!
My favourite of all times is still "Temple" But I love all of his writing.
Matthew Reilly does not let his fan base down with this next exciting book, the five greatest warriors. This book is the continuation of the six sacred stones - where the book ends in a cliff hanger. The action is non stop in this book, like a rollercoaster with more dips and turns than can be expected. If there is one book you read this year, make sure this is it! for the action seeking reader. However I would strongly suggest you read the six sacred stones book first as this book is a continuation of that one. AA++ - highly recommended reading
This book rocks. Matthew Reilly just keeps getting better. You cant put this book down until it's finished, and then you are craving more.
Cant wait for the next one.
