Presented in a new edition that adds updated pattern industry news and revised rules for selecting pattern size, this easy and practical fitting system requires no measuring, no drafting skills, no muslin mock-ups - and it works with all brands of tissue paper patterns. Real people of all ages are featured in photographs that explain the steps of cutting out pattern pieces, pinning them together, and adjusting the fit. Special attention is paid to tricky challenges such as accommodating a full bustline, adjusting sleeves, or reworking a garment to make it more flattering, as well as alternative fitting methods such as draping and computer design. Metric conversion charts, charts for comparing pattern company bodice measurements, and a history of American dress design (Just where did size 10 come from?) make this book a versatile reference.

"This is the most practical and complete book on fitting the body." --"Clotilde"
Excellent book if you are using commercial patterns and wish to get a great fit for your own body shape.
Have done a basic practical course using this technique but the book goes further into change that can be made to patterns and is a great reference when fitting other people who don't have the same body shape problems that you have yourself.
This book is the best resource I have found to sew clothes that fit. The easy to understand and step-by-step 'how to' instructions on fitting 'real' people of different shapes & sizes is excellent! Great Value, THANK YOU.
I had been looking at buying this book for a long time and very glad I did. It is an excellent and comprehensive resource for fitting problems of all types. Clear instructions and well written.
This is truly an amazing book. I've never seen such a comprehensive guide to altering ANY pattern to make it fit you just right. Pattern alteration is a daunting task at the best of times, but this book takes the guess work out of it. The book is well laid out, with chapters laid out according to the area needed to be fitted. The book also puts considerable emphasis on figure types, and the use of various styles and techniques to flatter. Also included are numerous tips for the novice sewer, or those not used to the Palmer/Pletsch approach. Thoroughly recommend to novice and experienced sewers alike. Well worth every dollar.
