Any fan of the show Firefly would greatly enjoy this book, the essay range in topics that are related to the ill fated TV show, from the inspiration behind the Reavers, to the reasons for the networks decision to cancel Firefly prematurely(before the intended pilot even went to air). I purchased this book as part of my research into the Firefly/Serenity universe for a university research paper on the significance of science fiction in our society. This series of essay gave an unique insight into the show and the cultural significance not only of it creation but it eventual premature cancelation.
The wide range in the topic and style of the essay within this book made not only easy to read but a pleasure to as well. I highly recommend this book to any Browncoat looking for some greater insight into the Firefly Universe.

This book ranges from Great Essays to some that you probably wont agree with.
Edited by Jane Espenson, it contains analysis of Firefly the show from all different angles and comparison to many different other properties. There is the discussion of the Killing of Firefly from Mrs Buchanan, why the Makeshift Pilot The Train Job didnt work according to KRAD the writer of the Serenity Novelisation, relation to the Tick due to Ben Edlunds involvement, The Rise and Fall and Rise of Firefly with relation to the rumors of a Firefly Film (which of course eventuated in the form of Serenity) and even some imput from Jewel Staite (Kaylee). Very interesting from all aspects and even includes an Unofficial GLossary of the Chinese used in Firefly. Recommended for any Browncoat

This is an interesting book of essays about the brilliant (although short lived) tv series Firefly created by Joss Whedon. Edited by Jane Espenson (who has worked on all Joss's shows), the collection goes in a lot of different directions, but most of the essays are worth reading. Particularly interesting is the last section which contains translations of all the chinese spoken on the show, which is good to keep nearby when watching the dvds, some of these lines are hilarious.
