The first book by "New York Times" bestselling author Picoult available in mass market paperback is a riveting, timely, heartbreaking, and terrifying novel of families in anguish and friendships ripped apart by inconceivable violence.
From The Publisher:
From Jodi Picoult, one of the most powerful writers in contemporary fiction, comes a riveting, timely, heartbreaking, and terrifying novel of families in anguish -- and friendships ripped apart by inconceivable violence. Until the phone calls came at 3:00 A.M. on a November morning, the Golds and their neighbors, the Hartes, had been inseparable. It was no surprise to anyone when their teenage children, Chris and Emily, began showing signs that their relationship was moving beyond that of lifelong friends. But now seventeen-year-old Emily has been shot to death by her beloved and devoted Chris as part of an apparent suicide pact -- leaving two devastated families stranded in the dark and dense predawn, desperate for answers about an unthinkable act and the children they never really knew.

I read this book because i liked 'my sisters keeper'. While 'The pact' is very good- it just quite didnt measure up. it still provokes the mind and keeps you wondering but i was just ever so slightly let down. this is not to say it was not worth reading! still a great concept and all just....well, without giving it away- read it and make up your own mind.
A Great holiday read that had me totally engrossed after the first couple of pages&I found it really hard to put down. This is the first Jodi Picoult book I have read&I will definately be reading more
Jodi Picoult at her best. It was the first book of Picoult I ever read, and I have been reading them ever since. It is a love story that knows no boundrys, it is sweet belivable with a very sad twist. It is also about frindships that are very close, to the point that they can just about read each others minds, which is torn apart with one curl act that nobody involved can understand
Just like the other Jodi Picoult novels well worth the read!!!!!!
You can see the point of view of each character and empathise with the parents as well as the boy under trial. Yet another great moral and ethical dilemna presented by Jodi Picoult.
