How can you not love this bloke and his crazy sense of humour. Whether you are reading one of his many novels, or reading some of his zany kid's poems, or listening to him on tape (perhaps as one of the iconic 'Goons') or watching him on DVD or Video or TV in one of his many roles there; there is never any doubt about how funny and enjoyable he is. This is Spike Milligan's first novel and it literally bursts at the seams using the great comic characters he has created here who get involved in the most unbelievable troubles on the Irish border. But no matter how amazing the situations they get themselves into logically appear, you find yourself completely overlooking the logic of it and accepting their situations as you laugh at their antics to resolve themselves from them. Spike Milligan was born at Ahmednagar in India in 1918. He received his first education in a tent in the Hyderabad Sindh desert. Then School via some Roman Catholic schools in India and England, followed by the Lewisham Polytechnic. He then went into Show Business, encouraged by his first stage appearance when he was eight, in a nativity play at Poona convent school. He next became a band musician, but quickly discovered his true talents lay in comedy cumulating with an honorary CBE in 1992.
The master's original classic satire on the division of Ireland from its southern counter-parts. Become engaged with Milligan's bizzare band of social misfits taking it to the enemy and occasionally each other. Spike's classic wordplay, intangible wit and ability to capture every minor neurotic detail of each character are all present. The beginning and the end of British humour.
A very funny book, from well known comedian Spike Milligan. The writing style is unique and there is some wit used on almost every page. One of the funniest books I have read in a while, I highly reccomend this to somebody that wants to get a good laugh. Shouldn't be taken seriously at all.
