'His hand closed automatically around the fake Horcrux, but in spite of everything, in spite of the dark and twisting path he saw stretching ahead for himself, in spite of the final meeting with Voldemort he knew must come, whether in a month, in a year, or in ten, he felt his heart lift at the thought that there was still one last golden day of peace left to enjoy with Ron and Hermione.' With these words "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" draws to a close. And here, in this seventh and final book, Harry discovers what fate truly has in store for him as he inexorably makes his way to that final meeting with Voldemort. J. K. Rowling seems to have recovered the part of Hermione and she is not a whining teenager anymore. She does have a strop, which is a bit of predictable foreshadowing to the end of the book, well rather, the epilogue of the book. There are a lot of loose ends that are tied up rather well for all the characters, although I have to say that I was disappointed to see one of my favorite characters in the whole set of tales, Hagrid, reduced to a bit part in this novel. In fact, truth be told, much of the book only really revolves around the core three, which one might have expected. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the read!
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is probably not Rowling's best book in the series and adults might find it to be a bit thin at times. It reads a bit rushed, and there are some spelling errors and plot glitches. But taken as a whole series, Rowling has done something only few other authors like Tolkien have done. She has created a series of books that can be read by child and adult alike and enjoyed in similar but slightly different ways. One just has to wonder if Rowling will be allowed to finish with Potter and what she has planned for her next novel. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the read!
Brilliant!! It can seem to drag at times and you wonder where it's going but it builds the suspense and makes the climax well worth the effort of a long read!
I found this book a fitting end to the Harry Potter series, with a very satisfying conclusion. It was particularly satisfying to discover that my unshaken faith in Snape was well founded. But as I finished the book I couldn't help wondering about all those young readers feeling so down as they finished it and had to say good-bye to Harry and his friends. It was an experience I suffered as a child at the end of every book I had enjoyed and I thought I was weird to feel that way about something that was "only a story". For some strange reason I thought I wouldn't feel so bad if only the story had been longer. But of course it was more likely to be the other way round. A series as long as Harry Potter would definitely have made me feel worse as I read the last words. I was well and truly an adult before I found out what the feeling is--a form of grieving--and that I wasn't weird because it's quite common. Among children anyway. The only way to get over it is to find something else to read. You can always go back to the beginning of the Harry Potter series until you find that something else. :-)
A sensational tale of adventure and heroism, with a plot of nail-biting suspense and unerring action. Brilliantly written by a true master of the genre. The characters are perfect in every sense- real and intriguing. They struggle against bitter enemies and through great danger, and come out triumphant! Simply the best!
This book is amazing. be warned, it can be quite the emotional rollercoaster! and make sure you have plenty of time, because you will NOT want to put it down!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and thought it was a fine finale to the Potter series. Well done J.K! As soon as I had finished it I felt compelled to go back and read all the other books in the series: this book very neatly tied up all the loose strings and, consequently, was a very satisfying read.
I enjoyed the book a lot and it was fun to read and a suitable resolution for Harry and the other characters. However, some of the plot turns were just a bit too convenient and Rowling seemed to kill off characters for no apparent reason as their deaths didn't really advance the plot. Overall, definitely read it if you enjoyed the other books, you will like finally having proper resolution to the plot and although it's not as good as it could have been potentially it is a fun an enjoyable read.
A caveat - don't try and read the last book without reading the others! Even if you've seen the movies.
