I really enjoyed this novella, I managed to read this in a return train ride (40mins each way). I gave an excellent history of how Micah was infected and the interlocking story of the raising of the dead witness flowed really well. A brilliant read.
This is the book that stopped me buying the series, overpriced, underdeveloped story. It is basically an intro and conclusion for a rather cliched sex scene (parts are almost identical to passages in one of her Meredith Gentry novels). If you are a diehard fan order it from the library.
A sensational tale of adventure and heroism, with a plot of nail-biting suspense and unerring action. Brilliantly written by a true master of the genre. The characters are perfect in every sense- real and intriguing. They struggle against bitter enemies and through great danger, and come out triumphant! Simply the best!!!!!!
thirdteenth book in a good fine series where you wont be able to put the books down once you started. great up and down climax in the story, with the mess up life of anita, she tries to find a balance in between all the different aspects of her life. Laurell did a very good job in detailing anita's thought process, communication and reaction between characters on the varies danger situation, shaky relationships, etc. a girl with a messy dangerous life, time and time again having her life thrown upside down, doing a lot of things, sometimes even crossing morals line for the sake of survival, for both herself and those she count as friends. a truely great series Laurell has written. short story compare to the others. give us a view of micah's life
For Laurell this is a short story. I enjoyed the fact the Micah got some alone time with Anita as they go off to get the bad guys together but its not as raunchy as we come to expect from Laurell. It does have a sweetness about it but it is like a sperate moment in time and has nothing to do with Anita Blakes main series. It would be one to buy if you are a fan and collector like I am but it doesn't add at all.
Only recommended for diehard Anita fans, way too short, and way overpriced for what it offers, one of the problems for Australasian buyers, this book was $2.99 in the states, which is probably still more than it is worth, the story should have been included at the end of one of the other books. You can live without knowing Micah's story, adds nothing to the ongoing Anita storyline.
I'm going to have to agree with the other reviews on this one, it's far too short, doesn't ever really develop properly, tells you very little about Micah's character (which is who the book is supposed to be about) and seems to be more of a filler between Incubus Dreams and Danse Macabre rather than a stand alone novel. Having become addicted to Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series I felt that this book lacked the substance, passion and excitement of the 12 preceding books. If you're a fan then I suggest you still read this book, but don't expect too much from it, it's really not of the usual standard.
As a collector and fan of Laurell K Hamilton I must say that I was a little bit disappointed with this book, I thought that the story was a little too soppy and not enough action/adventure and also the ending could have been longer !
I love the Anita Blake series but this isnt it. Very short, no story and what character development? Anita gets more whiny and Micah never does wrong. I know i am not the only one who was bored with this offereing. My suggestion - Rather than putting yourself through this one try the Merry Gentry series which is still fresh.
