The question as to how to define Freewill, let alone whether one form or another exists, is compatible with a deterministic worldview or omniscient deities, has occupied the minds of philosophers for...well, a very long time. Schopenhauer put this little piece together in the early 1800s, and, although it isn't designed to provide all the answers to the layman, it provides a still-relevant discussion for those with an interest in this area of philosophy.
There is a burdensome introduction/analysis that may put some off getting stuck into the book. If you're fairly new to the vocabulary of philosophers, you might do better to skip the intro and get straight to the essay itself.
