The definitive guide to studio practice in sculpture. Arranged alphabetically for easy reference, detailed explanations are given for a range of traditional, contemporary and experimental approaches to sculpting in clay, concrete, metal, plaster of Paris, resin (polyester) and wax. Every aspect of sculpture is covered, from studio equipment and preparation to handling the materials and surface finishes. It covers casting from life, finishes, firing techniques, melting and pouring metal, modelling in wax, piece moulding, reinforcing, and stone and wood carving. The Encyclopedia of Sculpture Techniques is illustrated throughout with examples of work by a range of sculptors, and additional photographs and line diagrams clarify many of the more complex working methods.
