On the brink of fatherhood--and facing the prospect of having to make dietary choices on a child's behalf--Foer's casual attitude towards food takes on a new urgency. Here, he explores the many fictions used to justify eating habits and how such tales justify a brutal ignorance.

Eating Animals is an eye-opening and confrontational book. Though it is non-fiction the information is presented in an interesting innovative format that doens't for a second leave you bored ot overwhelmed by jargon or statistics. Jonathan Safran Foer has beautifully woven a narrative of his own stories/childhood memories combined with corporate history, scientific discoveries, heart rendering accounts, interviews and unbiased/logical arguments. The result is an extra-ordinarily fluent book which only skins the surface of a issue so many of us would rather not face.
Having a tertiary background in science, in my humble opinion this book is incredibly well reasearched, biologically it makes sense. I would highly recommend it, not just for those considering vegetarianism or concerned about the impact of our food choices on the environment, but for anyone with morals and some form of intellect. truly thought provoking!
I purchased this book as a vegetarian, but after reading the book I feel I have a very justified reason for my choices. What a revelation it was. Every person should have to read this book and understand the cost to the universe for the consumption of animals for food. Not just because of the extreme cruelty that the animals suffer for there entire life but also because the environmental damage that FACTORY FARMING does. With 99 percent of all meat available coming from Factory Farms, there waste alone creates major environmental problems. Where does all the waste go ?
Don't know ? then you owe it too yourself and your children to find out. WHAT ARE THEY FEEDING THESE ANIMALS ??? and what, in turn are we FEEDING OUR CHILDREN ???. Don't be ignorant, and turn a blind eye, it is no longer the good old days, where cows and chickens lived on farms and grazed the paddocks, they live in a Factory Shed with no windows, never stepping foot on grass, for their entire lives.....their lives full of stress and imaginable horror....
Take the opportunity to find out the facts from this accredited writer. All the facts obtained in the book are from the industry itself and the government, so you can judge for yourself. Safran Foer just supplies the facts. Excellent read !!!
