I have this book, and it is full of excellent pictures illustrating Flusser's points. Some people complain that he is outdated - some of the pictures used date back 50 to 70 years! Has fashion changed in the past 50 to 70 years? Yes, it has, and certainly will continue to change. However, good dressing style is eternal. Being well dressed is about maintaining balance and harmony within your outfit, and not emphasizing an element to the detriment of others. For example, everybody can identify a 70s suit from their huge, oversized lapels. Were they fashionable in the 70s? Yes. Are they still fashionable now? Probably not, unless you are attending a 70s night. Compare and contrast Sean Connery's Bond of the 60s to Roger Moore's Bond of the 70s and 80s - the difference in suit style is marked. Connery's suit is a classic well balanced cut that can be worn today, and presumably till eternity, without looking out of date. In contrast, Moore's suit would look extremely dated today, and might come back in style in another 20 years when men 'rediscover' wide lapels. If you had money for one good suit, which one would you invest in? Flusser helps you to understand the cut of the suits from your local store so that you invest in the right cut.
