Shortly after we bought our dog from the shelter he got himself into fairly serious trouble... he was in an awful state when he came home with us, and had been making remarkable progress but still had some pretty serious issues. Jan Fennell's book came at exactly the right time- I found it when I was in a state of utter distress, and it seemed to be absolutely perfect- instant calm for me! I read the book immediately (had a late night!) and started implementing everything as I read it. From the very first day after buying the book, doggie's behaviour started to shift. A lot of the stuff I had already been doing anyway, inspired by knowledge of wolves and intuition about the dog. However, The Dg Listener is a godsend-Jan's book brings together all the ideas we had, but couldn't quite coalesce. I have paid a fortune to a behaviourist (long story) since then, and have come to the conclusion that really, Jan's stuff works and most others miss the critical end point in the conclusions they reach. I feel she is almost 100% correct about everything- the changes in my dog bear testament- even if I couldn't reconcile myself to giving an absolute judgement about her rightness etc. the dog could!
