When a security specialist for Roarke Enterprises is framed for murder, Eve Dallas takes the case and finds it full of red herrings. She and her elite crew of techno-geeks follow each one, human and electronic, to cull truth from appearance. After gulps of real coffee and meals that include real beef served up by the charming Roarke on his new barbeque, they close on this complicated case. Characters continue to develop as Eve and Roarke face a crisis in their marriage, Peabody imitates Eve as she comes to terms with her new job, and the mysterious candy thief continues to rob Eve of her chocolate with impunity. Filled with humor and tension, this is another enjoyable mystery read by the talented and skilled Susan Ericksen; her range of voices and accents and ability to pull each character in without missing a beat bring listeners to the center of the story and leave them wanting more. Not your usual type of detective story since its set in the future and some of the 'equipment' they use is a bit beyond the norm. Couldn't quite grasp any chemistry between Eve and her husband. Seem far too different and the storyline just doesn't seem to gel their characters enough for me to believe they would be in a relationship. I persevered with this book and read part of the next in the series before giving up. For the price this book is selling for you might consider it worth the risk but I'll be sticking to the authors Nora Roberts novels.
When one of Roarke's trusted friends and employees is suspected of murder (having been found at the scene where her husband and his lover - her best friend - have been brutally killed), Roarke turns to Eve for help in sorting out the mystery. It's a tangled web to Eve to unweave, but of course she manages it in the end, with the help of her trusty cohort of cops - Peabody, Feeney and McNab. A g ood read, and well recommended.
