Philip Yancey has a gift for articulating the knotty issues of faith. In Disappointment with God, he poses three questions that Christians wonder but seldom ask aloud: Is God unfair? Is he silent? Is he hidden? This insightful and deeply personal book points to the odd disparity between our concept of God and the realities of life. Why, if God is so hungry for relationship with us, does he seem so distant? Why, if God cares for us, do bad things happen? What can we expect from God after all?Yancey answers these questions with clarity, honesty, and biblical assurance. He points us beyond life's disappointments and the cynicism they can breed to a stronger, wiser faith, a confidence in God's deep love for us, and a thirst to reach not just for what God gives, but for who God is.

An amazing personal book. Yancey writes from the heart in a clear conversational way. As he struggles so he writes so that maybe others can learn lessons along with him. He's not preaching at people so much as trying to get along side them and help them along the way he has already been. A really wonderful author who truly speaks God's word.

In this wonderfully honest book, Yancey addresses three key questions:
- Is God Unfair?
- Is God Silent?
- Is God Hidden?
The thing I most appreciate about Yancey is that he does not avoid the hard questions raised by the faith; yet, in dealing with them, he refuses to take the often harsh high road of the theologian - distant, objective, aloof; rather, his work is profoundly personal, wrestling with the intensity of the issues with intellectual integrity, and heartfelt honesty.
The issue of suffering and evil in the world is arguably the greatest barrier to faith, and in this work Yancey addresses the issues front on, yet with sensitivity. The man is phenomenal; I thank God for his work...
