"An original and humorous mystery story . . . tied neatly into a plot that has continuous suspense. . . . The boys are real in their mischief and eager deducing, and the historical details are so naturally a part of the story that the whole has a liveliness that the pictures suggest."--"The""Horn Book"

I think boys in particular will enjoy the well paced plot and dialogue of this book. The boys are all students in a school in ancient Rome and they solve mysteries by a combination of brainstorming, reasoning and good luck. A good introduction to Ancient Rome for mid primary school aged children. You might want to practice pronouncing some names before attempting to read aloud !
