During the development of the project Destino Final, photographer Giancarlo Ceraudo, together with Miriam Lewin, a journalist and ex-desaparecida (disappeared), begun an investigation that brought to the discovery, after more than 30 years, of five Navy planes used for the "death flights", and most importantly, of the detailed flight plans. Giancarlo Ceraudo's photographic investigation, developed over more than eight years. The photographs are accompanied by documents and material regarding the investigation on the "death flights".

About the Author

Giancarlo Ceraudo (1969 - Rome, Italy) is a documentary photographer. For more then fifteen years he has been documenting social, cultural, health and human rights issues with a focus on Latin America. His work has been widely published in Italian and international publications including L'Espresso, Internazionale, El País, GEO, Sunday Times Magazine, New Yorker, Liberation, National Geographic, El País, GEO, Vrij Nederland, Polka Magazine, 6 Mois. His images are part of the collection of the MAXXI (National Museum of 21st Century Arts, Rome) and have been exhibited in galleries throughout Italy, Spain, France and the United States. MIRIAM LEWIN (1957 - Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a radio and television journalist based in Buenos Aires who has worked in Argentina for over 20 years. Her investigative journalism has explored difficult issues like sexual abuse in the Catholic church and people trafficking. She published several books, including Ese Infierno, launched in Italy under the title of Le Reaparecide, with other women survivors. Miriam was a political activist during Argentina's military dictatorship and in 1977, at the age of 19, she was kidnapped and detained in a torture centre. After a year she was taken to the Navy Mechanical School (known as ESMA) in Buenos Aires where she spent another 10 months. ESMA was the largest of the many detention and torture camps in Argentina, where almost 5,000 people died. She is one of the few survivors. In 1987, Miriam testified as a witness at the trial of the leaders of the oppressive regime known as 'Trial of the Juntas'. The trial led to the dictators being convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for their crimes against the Argentine people. Since then she has been a witness in many other trials for violation of human rights. MIRIAM LEWIN (1957 - Buenos Aires, Argentina) es periodista en radio y televisión, está radicada en Buenos Aires donde realiza su trabajo hace más de veinte años. Su trabajo investigativo ha explorado distintas problemáticas como los abusos sexuales cometidos por la iglesia católica, corrupción y tráfico de personas. Escribió varios libros, entre ellos Ese Infierno, publicado en Italia con el nombre de Le Reaparecide, con otras mujeres sobrevivientes. Miriam fue una activista política durante la dictadura militar argentina y en 1977, a la edad de 19 años fue secuestrada y detenida en un campo de concentración de la Fuerza Aérea. Después de un año fue llevada a la Escuela Mecánica de la Armada (ESMA) en Buenos Aires, donde estuvo detenida durante 10 meses. La ESMA fue uno de los más grandes campos de concentración en Argentina donde murieron alrededor de 5.000 personas. Miriam es una de las pocas sobrevivientes. En 1987 Miriam se presentó como testigo en el juicio a los líderes del régimen opresor, conocido como el Juicio a las Juntas. En el juicio se declaró la culpabilidad de los represores y se los sentenció a cadena perpetua por los crímenes cometidos contra el pueblo argentino. Desde entonces, fue testigo de cargo en decenas de causas por violaciones a los derechos humanos. HORACIO VERBITSKY (1942 - Buenos Aires, Argentina) is a writer and investigative journalist. He writes for the Argentine newspaper Página/12, of which he was edtor-in-chief and now a main columnist. He heads the Center for Legal and Social Studies (CELS), an Argentine human-rights organization. As of January 2015 Verbitsky is a Commissioner for the International Commission against the Death Penalty. In the 1970s he was a left-wing Peronist militant against the dictatorship.
