This study argues that deconstruction may be more closely akin to ancient Egypto-African ways of thinking about language and offers a new framework for considering Derrida. Derrida analysis is a popular subject and Wise covers him in new ways. Wise's criticisms of Derrida and his arguments made in connection to Derrida's stance on Zionism will add to the larger debate.

Reviews
'Wise's "careful dissection of Derrida's work in all its scope" turns his book into "a major contribution to the on-going debate of the relations between peoples". In Derrida, Africa and the Middle East, Professor Christopher Wise has succeeded in making deconstruction "far more inclusive than the articulation of it one finds in Derrida's writing". Jacques Derrida's work may now begin to resonate more clearly in Africa and African studies in particular.' - The Sunday Nation
